Elizabeth Misao Keith

 

Interpretation and Translation (Japanese-English)

 

Dr. Elizabeth Keith has extensive experience as an interpreter in English and Japanese. She was born and raised in Japan and has spoken both Japanese and English since her childhood. Her father was American and her mother was Japanese. She attended International School of the Sacred Heart in Tokyo, where classes were held in English, and she spoke Japanese in the local community where she grew up.

Dr. Keith has interpreted for Prince Hitachi of the Imperial Family of Japan; former Prime Minister Fukuda of Japan; Takatsugu Iwatsuki, Senior Vice President and Director of NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone); Osamu Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corporation; Japanese movie director Juzo Itami; and Governors Ariyoshi, Cayetano, and Lingle of Hawaii. She interpreted on-camera for NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) during interviews that were broadcast nationally in Japan.

Dr. Keith also served for twenty years as an interpreter during depositions, trial preparation, and/or trials for Honda (motorcycles), Kawasaki (motorcycles), Toyota (passenger cars), Bridgestone (tires), and Suzuki (motorcycles, ATVs, sports utility vehicles, and passenger cars). She has interpreted in state and federal courts in eleven states, as well as courts in Canada and the Virgin Islands.

Speaking, Teaching, Presenting Workshops

 

Dr. Keith has taught at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Hawaii Tokai International College, and Temasek Polytechnic (Singapore). Her areas of focus have been Japanese language, literature, and culture; transnational studies; cross-cultural communications; cultural awareness; and diversity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she is available to speak, teach, and present workshops via Zoom.

Dr. Keith has translated legal, business, and academic documents. As part of her Master’s degree thesis, she translated the poetry of Kaneko Misuzu.

 

Dr. Keith continues to accept appropriate projects as an interpreter or translator.

Speaking, Teaching, Presenting Workshops

 

Dr. Kent Keith has been featured in The New York Times, People magazine, The Washington Post, and The San Francisco Chronicle. He was interviewed by Katie Couric on NBC’s Today Show, and has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal and Inc.com. He has appeared on more than a hundred TV and radio programs in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, Australia, and Kenya.

Dr. Keith has presented more than a thousand speeches, workshops, and conference papers in the United States and thirteen countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa. His topics include the Paradoxical Commandments, meaning and motivation, and the many dimensions of servant leadership. He has also taught servant leadership courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he is available to speak, teach, and present workshops via Zoom.
